Fashion by 632 Church Street

Everyone has their own sense of style or flare for fashion, and we all portray it in different ways. I know that seems pretty obvious, but it was even moreso to me after living in a house with 13 girls that came from different states, different backgrounds, and had completely different styles. So I've asked a few of my roommates to answer a couple questions about their fashion tastes so you can see if you fall into a fairly common category or if you're in one all your own.

The City Look
3 things every girl needs in her closet:
JBrand skinny jeans, BCBG mid-length black skirt, & ankle boots
3 things every girl needs in her makeup bag:
NARS bronzer, Sephora eyeliner, & NARS lipgloss
Most important fashion rule:
"Don't dress in something that you don't feel absolutely great in."

This girl is a city girl through and through. Being from Long Island and currently living in the heart of NYC, she knows the ins and outs of big city fashion. But she also knows the long hours of a working girl, so she understands that sometimes while beauty is pain, it's not always worth it. To survive in the big city, grab her essentials and wear them to work or the club.

The Classic Look
3 things every girl needs in her closet:
black Hardtails, Sperrys, & a headband
3 things every girl needs in her makeup bag:
NARS bronzer, eyeliner, and chapstick
Most important fashion rule:
"Dress comfortably."

This girl is the epitome of country club prep. Whether it's J. Crew or Ralph Lauren, she's usually rocking a look that could walk her right onto a golf course. Polo dresses and sweaters comprise a decent portion of her closet, and she will fit right in with her new crowd at Notre Dame next year. And of course, you're not really dressed preppy unless you have Sperry's on your feet. Minimal makeup, comfortable clothes, and a headband in the hair = today's classic suburban elite twenty-something look.

The Simple Look
3 things every girl needs in her closet:
leather coat, f&c disco city tote, & black patent leather heels
3 things every girl needs in her makeup bag:
"Have you seen my makeup bag?"
Most important fashion rule:
"I'm too indecisive to give anyone fashion advice."

With very classic but exotic features, it doesn't take a whole lot for this girl to good. She doesn't have a very full closet, but what she does have is top-of-the-line and easy to mix & match and dress up or down. Her outfits are versatile and her makeup is always simple (her makeup bag is the size of my bag I keep my hair ties in...).  To try out this look, stick to high-quality basics (like a great pair of black patent leather heals) and feel free to splurge on things you know you can wear with anything.

The Trendy Look
3 things every girl needs in her closet:
bandeau, jean leggings, & an American Apparel body suit
3 things every girl needs in her makeup bag:
 eyeliner, mascara, & Nivea chapstick
Most important fashion rule:
"Always accessorize."

The latest and greatest fashion trends run this girl's closet, as she's always rocking something brand-new that I end up wanting to borrow. Her essential wardrobe items were all staples in the U of M girl's bar outfit - especially the bandeau for shirts that cut just a little too low. The makeup in this look is generally defined around dramatic eyes (eyeliner and mascara being two of the three keys to her cosmetic bag), and accessories always make her outfit. Be it big necklaces, lots of bangles, or a bright clutch, these add-ons really compliment the trends.

And then there is me...

The Vintage Look
3 things every girl needs in her closet:
oversized tote, LBD, & a killer pair of stilettos
3 things every girl needs in her makeup bag:
Erase Paste by Benefit, Chanel bronzer, & Urban Decay eyeliner
Most important fashion rule:
"Heels go with everything."

I probably have five or six different variations of the little black dress hanging in my closet, as well as five or six oversized totes that I can fit my 48-hour life into if necessary. While you don't need to go overboard like me, I think both of these are essential for any girl's closet, no matter what look you're trying to pull off. I think the pair of killer stilettos is a given: heels do go with everything.

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." -Coco Chanel
