Designer Bio: Salvatore Ferragamo

Salvatore Ferragamo was one of the most renowned Italian shoe-designers in the world. The original wedge and cage heel designer (which my girlfriends know happen to be a personal favorite of mine), Ferragamo was not only concerned with the look of his shoe, but the feel that it gave to the women who wore them. He was survived by a large family who now owns his company, and a museum was erected in 1995 in his honor that includes over 10,000 different shoe models made in his lifetime. It also includes some of his clothing designs and some of his handbag designs from his later years.

Today, Ferragamo's name runs under the company title Salvatore Ferragamo Italia S.p.A. During Ferragamo's lifetime and beyond, the name has been associated with celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, and even Princess Diana. Ferragamo's flagship store is in Florence, with two locations in Rome, two in Milan, and 14 others spread across Italy. 58 stores are controlled in Europe, 20 in Latin America, 64 in Japan, and 65 in the Asian Pacific.

As for the US, there are 15 boutiques across Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington (I've been to the Michigan and Illinois boutiques), as well the flagship stores on Fifth Avenue in New York, in Boston, in Beverly Hills, and in Honolulu.

Fun fact about Ferragamo: he makes the most incredible perfumes that I've been wearing for the last five years! Go try Incanto Bliss or Incanto Heaven.

“Anatomically, the foot cannot respond. And artistically—ugh!”
