BYU Basketball Player Dismissed From Team For Having Pre-Marital Sex

Yes, you read that right.

Brandon Davies, a sophomore at Brigham Young University, was dismissed from the basketball team for violating the university honor code: having sex with his girlfriend.

BYU is a Mormon university, and requires its students to comply with a strict list of rules that includes abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, tea, coffee, and premarital sex.

While this is obviously not a lifestyle I choose to practice (what the hell would I do without coffee?), I'm a firm believer of keeping an open mind to other people's lifestyles. I would imagine that Davies knew he was required to abide by these rules going into college. I can't honestly believe someone could attend BYU without knowing the implications. Do I think he should have been dismissed? No, probably not. However, if you know it's a rule and you're willing to play by it anyway, you can't get upset when it's enforced. It sucks, but the university needed to stand by its policies and I respect that.

  1. Oh, and there is absolutely no way that you can go to BYU and NOT know about the honor code. He knew exactly what the rules are.

  2. I didn't even think to ask you about this before I posted! I'm sure you could have provided some good insight about it. I figured that there was no way he could have attended school there and not understood what rules he had to follow, so I really believe that the university think did the right thing.

Thanks for leaving a message! xox
