It's Fat Tuesday - There Are No Rules

Easter is late this year, so that means that Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday falls in the middle of March. Incidentally, that is right around many people's spring break, including my own. The idea of consuming large quantities of food right before hitting the beach in a bikini terrifies people. Do you want to know what I have to say about that? OH WELL.

In the south, it's Mardi Gras and you eat King Cake (which I just recently learned about - thank you Emily & Will), but in Detroit, it's plain-old Fat Tuesday, and you eat a giant Paczki (pronounced pooch-key or poonch-key, both are correct), which is a delicious Polish jelly donut. For Catholics, the Lenten season starts tomorrow on Ash Wednesday, where many people give up chocolate, candy, or sweets in general. So today is the day to forget counting calories (*cough* rooooomz) and to indulge.

Since there is not a single Polish restaurant in Tuscaloosa (shock), I'm going to hit up a German bakery downtown to find a suitable Fat Tuesday substitute. In the meantime, I'm celebrating Mardi Gras in my Property class with Jerome going Kroto-style on us.

Happy Fat Tuesday!
