5 Things Writing a Blog Has Done For Me

Since starting this blog 3 and a half years ago (pause: what?!), so many amazing things have happened because of it. Some of them are things you would obviously expect to happen with writing a blog for so long, but some were so unexpected and amazing, and they make writing a blog so worth every second I put into it.

1. It has made me a better writer.
Le duh. Super shocking, right? I've always been 'a writer', and I've started about 12 novels that I've written a chapter of and never finished. This is by far the longest project I've ever had, and the fact that I've continued it is a testament in and of itself. But writing over 300 posts (pause again: what?!) has obviously allowed me to hone in on the good qualities of my writing, as well as get rid of the super annoying or not so effective ones.

2. In short, I've met some famous people.
I wanted to say this more eloquently somehow, but it's the truth. Writing this blog has enabled me to meet and even become friends with some incredible people. When I started writing this blog (and to this day), Pat Forde was my favorite sports writer. 2010 was when Twitter was just getting started and I reached out to him on there, where he very kindly agreed to do an interview with me for my blog. Three years later, we're good friends and meet for drinks whenever we're at the same sporting event. I also was able to meet Desmond Howard and the rest of the College Gameday crew when they came to Tuscaloosa for Alabama vs. LSU in 2011. And then there's my contract with FoxSports, which was a whole accomplishment in and of itself. I never thought that writing this little thing would open so many wonderful opportunities and experiences.

3. I've made lifelong friends.
This is probably my favorite one. I've gotten to connect with, meet, and become really good friends with people I've met through blogging. I've now fangirled over a video I got of Carly Cristman telling me she loved me (!!!), and I can say blogging has brought me one of my best friends, Holly (or @hollysaysheyy for anyone that follows her in the YouTube world). Holly and I have done trips back and forth to visit each other and we talk basically every day. I feel so lucky to have met such great people, especially ones that I know I'm going to have in my life for a very long time.

4. I've been able to combine three things I love into one amazing hobby.
Obviously in the last year my blog has been way more geared towards beauty & fashion, but anyone that knows me knows that I am a diehard Michigan fan and I love college football more than most people I know. So being able to write (1) about sports (2) & fashion (3) is really an incredible way of combining three things I really love.

5. I have a reason to justify my shopping problem.
This is kind of a joke... but kind of not. I clearly have a shopping problem, and my blog gives me a place to talk about all of my wonderful new purchases. And when I see a new beauty product, I'm like 'Oh obviously I need to get that so I can write about it"... anything to justify it in my head.

In short, if you are thinking about or have ever considered writing a blog, just do it. I promise it will be worth every minute you put into it. There have been few things in my life that have been so enjoyable and equally as rewarding.
