I debated on whether or not I was going to write this post, mainly because I wasn't sure if I could get through it. I've known Bagel (or Chris Bagley to anyone who has met him in the last year) for most of my life and he has been one of my best friends since I was 12 (after a brief 7th grade summer romance, obviously). I remember when we first found out about his polycystic kidney disease and we knew that inevitably today would come. But we were young and it seemed so far out into the future that it was really hard to imagine.

Well here we are, 12 years later, and today is the day that he gets his kidney transplant. I couldn't be more proud of the way that Bagel has handled everything that has come his way in the last twelve years and how he has never let PKD get in the way of him living his life. Even yesterday, a mere 8 hours before he had to be in Ann Arbor for his surgery, we were sitting at Comerica Park watching the Tigers stomp the Dodgers. When I said goodbye to him yesterday, I hugged him extra tight, knowing that I was probably more of an emotional wreck than he was. I've never seen him breakdown or get angry or curse the world saying "why me?". He is the example of how I want to live my life in the face of any challenges I come across, and I am so proud to call him one of my best friends.
I love you Bagel, and so many other people do too. We're all awaiting your safe and healthy return  back home to us.
